Functional neurosurgeon treating severe, treatment-resistant OCD and depression at the University of Chicago Department of Neurosurgery, Hyde Park.
Dr. Atik is a stereotactic and functional neurosurgeon with more than 14 years in clinical practice. At the University of Chicago Department of Neurosurgery, his work centers on the surgical treatment of severe, treatment-resistant psychiatric illness: deep brain stimulation and laser anterior capsulotomy (LITT) for obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression, carried out within a structured, multidisciplinary evaluation. His OCD ablation research is a focus of his academic program.
He also leads research on network-level analysis of the brain and the integration of each patient's brain wiring (tractography) into surgical planning, working alongside the University of Chicago's multidisciplinary functional neurosurgery team.
New-patient and referral visits are seen at the University of Chicago's Hyde Park campus. Clinic is held on Thursdays.

This website provides general educational information about psychiatric neurosurgery and a way to request an appointment. It does not provide medical advice and is not a substitute for evaluation by a physician. Surgery for psychiatric illness is reserved for severe, treatment-resistant cases and is decided by a multidisciplinary team; several procedures are investigational or carry a humanitarian device exemption. In an emergency or a mental-health crisis, call 911 or 988. Requesting an appointment does not by itself establish care; a clinician-patient relationship begins at your scheduled visit.
